Golden History of PCCTU

Since its inspection PCCTU has achieved many milestones in its prime objective in securing the legitimate service rights of the teachers. The worth mentioning achievements are:

1) Uniformity of Pay Scales to college and university teachers was implemented following the hard efforts of PCCTU. Prior to this university teachers were paid higher pay scales as compared to college teachers.

2) Security of Service Act 1974 came into force as result of intensive struggle of PCCTU. This Act helped in shielding the service of teachers against undue victimization by the college managements.

3) 95% grant in aid policy, in accordance with Delhi pattern, was implemented in 1979 by the Punjab Government in private colleges of Punjab. PCCTU played a pivotal role in making the government to implement this scheme. Thus, ensuring the salary of private college teachers as per UGC norms.
4) Prior to 1984 House rent allowance (HRA) wad not paid to private aided college teachers. It was due to the struggle of PCCTU that Punjab Government extended the benefit of HRA to the teachers since 1984.

5) DPE and Librarians in the colleges of Punjab state got pay scales equivalent to lecturer owing to the struggle of PCCTU against the discriminatory anomalies in Pay Scales.

6) PCCTU played key role by approaching Honorable Punjab and Haryana High Court to lift the ban on the recruitment against Grant in Aid sanctioned posts in the non government Aided Colleges of Punjab.

7) Services of employees working against self finance posts in non government Colleges of Punjab were secured by the necessary amendment made in Security of Service Act, 1974 (2022) by the Punjab Government. A decade long struggle of PCCTU was finally successful.
